Imports toolpath data from NC files
NC Import for AutoCAD is a Numeric Control NC program (.nc) file import plug-in for AutoCAD Imports toolpath data from NC program files into AutoCAD!
Imports NC file into AutoCAD!

CNC Machines worldwide use Numeric Control (.nc, .ncc or .cnc) files to convert programmed instructions to tool movement. NC programs consist of a sequence of codes with parameter data to arrive at a precise description of the toolpath.
NC Import for AutoCAD reads NC program files and recreates the toolpath. The tool movements programmed in NC files are converted in into corresponding line, arc or circle objects and added to the active drawing in AutoCAD.
The NCImport submenu
NC Import for AutoCAD is very easy to use. Once installed, it must be loaded into the AutoCAD environment. There are simple instructions for this in the ReadMe file. Once loaded it adds new commands to AutoCAD’s existing commands and a new submenu called “NCImport” to the AutoCAD menu containing these newly added commands.
The ‘NCImport’ menu commands
- Import - Imports a NC file
- Help - Displays the NC Import for AutoCAD help file
- Register - Registers your copy of NC Import for AutoCAD
- About - Display11s the NC Import for AutoCAD About box
- NC Import for AutoCAD comes with detailed documentation for each command as well as a tutorial to get you started in the shortest possible time.
The NC File Format
Numerical Control (NC) was the precursor of today’s Computer Numerical Control (CNC), which controls the automation of machine tools and the inherent tool processes for which they are designed.
The set of instructions, or “program” (usually an ASCII text file in which, in its simplest form, a line of text specifies the axial coordinates of a point in the work envelope) is prepared from a blueprint or CAD file and transferred to the memory of the CNC via floppy drive, serial data interface or a network connection. Once stored in the CNC memory and selected, the program is executed by pressing the appropriate key on the machine operator panel.
Installation & Usage
Since NC Import for AutoCAD is a plug-in for AutoCAD, it must be loaded into the AutoCAD environment before it can be used. Please follow the simple instructions in the NC Import for AutoCAD ReadMe document which is copied into the installation folder.
After you have loaded the plug-in file into AutoCAD, simply click on the menu items in the “NCImport” submenu or type “NCImport” (without quotes) at the AutoCAD command prompt and press “Enter”. This will bring about the “File Open” dialog box from where you can select the NC file you wish to import. Truly, software made simple!
