Converts your PDF into DWG format in just 4 steps!

This powerful utility converts PDF to DWG in just seconds by creating a DXF you can import. Improve quality and accuracy when you use pdf2cad.

Convert PDF to DWG accurately!

Stop redrawing and start converting your PDF files using pdf2cad. With pdf2cad you can accurately convert your PDF to DWG format by importing the DXF file. Your end result will be lines, shapes and text strings that you can bring into AutoCAD or any supporting application.

PDF to DWG format in seconds

This PDF to DWG / DXF converter uses DXF for output. DXF remains the industry-standard for both converting and sharing CAD files. The DXF format also allows you to easily import the converted PDF into not only AutoCAD but most CAD programs as well.

Pdf2cad also converts the PDF using built-in vector graphic technology providing the most clear and accurate result. In addition it analyzes the objects within PDF and converts them to the appropriate AutoCAD entity type. For example, text converts into supported MTEXT,

Converts PDF to CAD & More

After using pdf2cad you can open the DXF file in AutoCAD for viewing and editing. When you save it becomes AutoCAD’s native DWG file format.

Use this powerful converter with any CAD application. You can easily import the DXF as scalable and editable objects in AutoCAD, Microstation … you name it. The PDF to DWG / DXF converter also converts to CAD/CAM and CNC systems as well as Microsoft Vision.

Program Highlights

pdf2cad is a proven, reliable tool for converting PDF files into the CAD interchange format.

Program highlights include:

  • Converts PDF to DWG thru DXF format
  • Easy wizard-style Windows interface
  • Convert from PDF to CAD formats using DXF
  • Streamlined conversions
  • Accurately reproduces PDF vector geometry
  • Support for referencing raster images
  • Preserves original PDF sheet size
  • Allows font name mappings
  • Converts multi-page PDF to multiple single-page
  • Can Auto-rotate for left-to-right reading

pdf2cad can also ignore vectors, images and/or text during conversion
User-definable options to add numeric suffixes to multiple DXF pages from multi-page PDF input

pdf2cad extracts embedded raster images to separate TIFF or JPEG files, referenced in the DXF output (so they will render when opening the DXF in your target application).

Batch convert PDF to DXF

pdf2cad is also a batch conversion tool, so you don’t need to open and re-save the PDF file over and over again. Simply select and convert the files all at once.

PDF to CAD Conversion highlights include:

  • Preserves curves as splines
  • Preserves PDF font text as MTEXT
  • Set minimal line width for DXF output
  • Can renders dashed/dotted lines as segments
  • Supports dragging a PDF file into interface
  • Option to rotate output by any degree
  • Can emulate PDF clipping/cropping commands
  • Remove or outline hatches/fills option
  • Option to crop/ eliminate white space
  • Can outline font text to vector paths
  • Uses vector graphic technology & provides clear results
  • Can Auto-rotate for left-to-right reading

The conversion software allows you to apply a number of filter options during conversions, for example to emulate fonts, outline fills or rotate the file.

Converts using vector graphic technology

PDF files that are generated directly from the CAD or graphics application (e.g. Acrobat Distiller, Bluebeam Pushbutton PDF or CAD2PDF from Layton Graphics) are stored as a vector graphic.

This conversion software takes the extra step to both analyse and convert the PDF to DXF using its built-in vector graphic technology providing a clear and accurate final result.

Inside the PDF file is set of drawing instructions that define every line, shape and object using geometrical mathematical equations. Vector graphics provide scalable 2D versions of the CAD drawing equal to what would be plotted to paper.

pdf2cad requires the PDF file be in vector graphic format before conversion. This will significantly clean-up parts in the drawing that raster-to-vector software (the other conversion method) just can’t accomplish.

If the drawing in your PDF file is a raster image (or contains raster images), pdf2cad will warn you after the conversion is completed.

More about the PDF to DWG / DXF process

pdf2cad interprets the drawing instructions in the PDF file, and translates them to their equivalent in the DXF vector language. Line types used in the PDF are reproduced in DXF.

It is important to keep in mind that these line types may sometimes convert to the best and closest match. For example PDF does not have a circles or ellipses entity and can only represent them using curves or polyline segments. Curves may already be downgraded to polyline segments in the PDF.

pdf2cad currently has little choice but to reproduce line types as they occur in the PDF. Stay tuned though as Visual Integrity Technologies is currently working on ways in which the converter can recognize high level objects (e.g. curves forming a circle) in the PDF drawing and represent them as such in the DXF.

Converting Text with pdf2cad

If your text is still attached in the PDF file, often referred to as ‘searchable’ PDF, then pdf2cad can in most cases reproduce it as searchable/editable text (MTEXT) in the DXF.

In your PDF (or PostScript) printer driver settings, make sure to have it set to keep text as text instead of converting it to graphics.

Otherwise, text in a drawing will be considered as vector paths in the PDF file and will be converted as such. Meaning the text converts itself to graphics but looks just like text.

Also embedded raster images are extracted to separate TIFF (for b&w) or JPEG (for color) files, and referenced in the DXF. As long as you keep them with their DXF parent, you will see them when you open the DXF file - assuming your target application supports raster images, of course.

Stop redrawing those floor plans or mechanical designs from scratch. Convert your PDF to AutoCAD with pdf2cad!
