New GUI Features

Menu Browser

The Menu Browser provides easy access to searches, commands and recent documents. Display the menu by clicking on the “A” button in the upper left corner of the AutoCAD display.

You can also specify menus to display in the menu browser by customizing your CUI file.

Ribbon

Autodesk has replaced tool bars, pull down menus and dashboard with a new ribbon interface. Operating much like Office 2007 the ribbon allows users to view related commands relevant to their current workspace. Within the ribbon there are a group of TABS to choose all which can be customized using the CUI editor.

Status Bar

Re-designed to now utilize Icons or Text. Additional right-click access has been added as well as a new tool called Quick Properties.

Action Recorder

Another new and popular feature in AutoCAD 2009 is the Action Recorder. Now you can record repetitive tasks as macros. Action macros can record most commands that can be used from the command line and some of the user interfaces that you are already familiar with. Custom user inputs can also be added and macro files can be shared with others.

User Assistance

In 2009 User Assistance Provides you with enhanced tool tips to provide you with additional information when hovering over items. Also includes Customizable Dynamic Help to quickly access and link help documentation for AutoCAD commands

Quick View

Now you can quickly flip between multiple open drawings and multiple drawing layouts using resizable drawing thumbnails.

Quick Properties

The Quick Properties panel lists the most commonly used properties for each object type or a set of objects that are selected.

View Cube

AutoCAD 2009 includes a new 3D navigation tool that appears when the 3D graphics system is enabled and allows you to switch between standard and isometric views.

The View Cube displays the current viewpoint of the model based on the current UCS and the North direction defined by the WCS of the model.

Steering Wheel

SteeringWheels are tracking menus that are divided into different sections known as wedges. Each wedge on a wheel represents a single navigation tool. You can pan, zoom, or manipulate the current view of a model in different ways.

ShowMotion

ShowMotion tools let you quickly step through different views in your drawing for design presentations purposes. Use Authoring Mode to create animations and transitions
or use Presentation Mode to play back Shots and Sequences.

Layer Manager

Layer Manager is now a modeless dialog box. Changes made are now made instantly without the need to use the Apply button. Layer manager can now be set to dock, autohide, and anchor just like tool palettes

DWF Files

DWF Files are now based on the XML Paper Specification (XPS) format from Microsoft.
