Dynamic blocks

Many 2D improvements

Dynamic Blocks
AutoCAD 2006 optimizes and reduces the size of your block library using Dynamic blocks. Dynamic blocks allows One block to be scaled, moved, rotated, stretched, inserted and arrayed as your block is placed within your drawing.
You can also attach special properties to the block, such as a distance, point and angle. For each block you can add actions on how a specific property will change. For example, you can specify that a cabinet be stretched in 3’ modules ad can only be scaled 2’ maximum in depth.
Each time you insert a dynamic block, AutoCAD can also prompt you for appropriate values for each parameters, such as sizes and quantities of an array. You can preset values to a valid range or to other custom values if desired.
Dynamic Input
In this release Autodesk introduced a new command line interface is located near the mouse cursor (in addition to the command prompt at the bottom of your drawing window).
Dynamic Input allows you to type in your command or select new options relating to the command you are in using your down arrow. The tool tip box can also be customized to when it appears and what it looks like and how it will behave to certain AutoCAD commands.
Selection preview
To help select objects in your drawing easier, 2006 will highlight your drawing objects when your cursor hovers over them. This new AutoCAD command prevents you from selecting the wrong entity when two objects overlap each other.
In addition when using a selection or crossing window, a transparent box will appear around the objects so you can see what will be selected in that grouping.
Hatching improvements
AutoCAD 2006 allows you to add or remove boundaries within a given hatching area. You can also hatch areas that extend beyond the visible display window. Even specify the origin of the hatch pattern other than at 0,0. In addition you can hatch several, non-contiguous areas as one hatch object. You’ll also find the total area of the hatched boundary within the Properties Dialog.
Dimensioning improvements
Apply different linetpyes to dimension without exploding. Individual dimension elements can also be changed. For example a extension line could be changed to a centerline. A New DIMARC command has been added - this version can also dimension arc lengths. and flip the dimension arrow. There’s even a fixed length extension lines setting to override your initial settings.
Text and Annotation
AutoCAD 2006 eliminate the text properties window and feels more like a word processor than its predecessors. When editing Mtext and single line, text changes are made directly in the drawing area. In addition you can add numbered and bulleted lists
Quick Calc
QuickCalc is a full-function scientific calculator. The calculator can perform for complex calculations within nested parentheses. Quickcalc can also do units conversions. In addition, each calculated result can be posted to the Command prompt within any command that is asking for a value.
New for CAD Managers - introducing CUI
For CAD managers this version brings a new Customized User Interface, or CUI for short. The AutoCAD 2006 CUI replaces the AutoCAD 2000 - 2005 Customize dialog box and is very powerful. With it you can manages Menu files, keyboard Shortcuts, create custom Toolbars and more. It compiles all these custom settings into a portable file which can be transported easily from computer to computer. The CUI file manages your AutoLISP files as well.
