They say AutoCad will not run on Vista

AutoCAD and Windows Vista

As you may know, current versions of AutoCAD do not support the Windows Vista platform. Good news though - the upcoming release of AutoCAD 2008 due out in March this year will integrate the new Windows Vista technology along with releasing new Vista supported drivers (see video below).

Can’t wait till the next version? Recently a user in our forum has managed to get AutoCAD 2006 to work on Vista Business. Although not supported by AutoDesk or networking environments here’s how he did it.

Taken from the Cadopolis Forum:

Open up c:\ -> Program Files -> AutoCAD 2006, then right-click on acad.exe, choose properties, open up Compatibility tab, click the button near the bottom labeled “Show Settings for All Users”, accept UAC, check box labeled “Run this program as an Administrator”, click OK, check box again labeled “Run this program as an Administrator”, click OK and close explorer.

Now whenever you launch AutoCAD UAC prompts you to accept it, and you have to hit “run program” but CAD launches.
