Super 3D in AutoCAD 2007?

Very little is known about the next release of AutoCAD 2007. Although at the recent Autodesk University in Orlando, Florida, several announcements of future enhancements were unveiled.

It is possible that an enhanced modeler may be a part of the AutoCAD 2007 update. The 2007 modeler will feature 3D grips, dynamic 3D UCS and enhanced 3D visualization & presentation tools. The modeler is similar to that found in Sketchup. 2d objects can be extruded on the fly then colorized and rendered using a “dashboard” like interface. If implemented in AutoCAD 2007 the modeler would also be able to perform light studies.

There were also rumors at AU of a new rendering engine including a new Rendering toolbar as well. The new modeler can be imported into Autodesk Inventor as it uses the same ShapeManager Kernel.

One thing Autodesk did reveal is that they are hard at work adding 64-bit multicore processing technology into portions of AutoCAD. Inventor 11 is expected to run in a 64-bit Windows and will improve memory management for large assemblies.

It is also possible that the AutoCAD 2007 release may contain some 64-bit multithreading within the more demanding functions like plotting and rendering.

Also predicted for the future release of AutoCAD 2007 is better 2D documentation and tutorials. There’s also a strong possibility that Express Tools may be coded into the 2007 product.

Autodesk is working to make sure third-party applications can become more integrated into AutoCAD. AutoCAD 2007 is expected to include support for both DGN and Adobe PDF. Integrating Adobe PDF has been on the top of the AutoCAD User Group wish-list for some time now so many are anticipating this upgrade.
