Since Autodesk first acquired Revit, it has almost become a household word in the AutoCAD community. But what exactly is Revit?
In 2002 Autodesk combined Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology and three-dimensional modeling into one package.
With these two technologies now seamed together, Revit software has changed the way offices assemble and create working drawings from the design stages.
Although Revit is often thought of as a parametric 3D modeler it can also revise plans, elevations, sections, schedules and other elements that are intelligently attached to one another.
It does so using Parametric architecture, an extremely powerful way for one element in your drawing to understand a relationship to other.
For example, using Revit you could quickly sketch a rough layout of your floor plan. Then by simply typing in the overalls and critical room dimension, you can refine your design even further.
Changes you make then translate to each relating component and all affected drawings. Revit is currently in release 9 and is available for purchase using the AutoCAD Estore link below.
