With the release of AutoCAD 2007 users can now plot directly to a PDF file using as print driver. Now many 2007 users are wondering how to compare the new AutoCAD 2007 PDF plotter & Acroplot and other PDF conversion software?
While the new built in PDF plot driver may be sufficient for some offices, those who need greater accuracy, speed and print quality may have to look elsewhere. For example offices who email, & print Pdf’s on a regular basis, Acroplots smaller file sizes may seem extremely attractive. The smaller PDF file sizes are also very noticeable when viewing, FTPing and even web browsing.
When converting a file to PDF in AutoCAD 2007 just the current drawing being printed is converted. AcroPlot on the other hand includes a powerful batch conversion utility. File formats such as DWF, DOC, BMP, TXT, RTF, TIFF, GIF, Word, Excel, and more are also supported by Acroplot. In addition a copy of AutoCAD is also not required if using Acroplot external AutoCAD Viewer.
Comparing AutoCAD 2007 PDF & Acroplot
(what 2007 can’t do)
- AutoCAD 2007 PDF file sizes are huge — email, FTP, printing, and viewing are cumbersome.
- 2007 has no support for lines merge — PDF file’s scale may differ from original drawing
- Text is not searchable text in the 2007 PDF - no way to find content within the PDF.
- True Type Text prints thicker than it should and may be hard to read at certain scaling
- Can’t create PDF’s from any other application than AutoCAD.
