Reads & converts PLT files inside AutoCAD
PLT Import for AutoCAD is a HPGL Plot (.PLT) file import plug-in for AutoCAD. Imports geometric data from ASCII and Binary PLT files into AutoCAD easily.
Easily converts your PLT files

PLT Import for AutoCAD reads pen movement data stored PLT files and imports it into AutoCAD. A HPGL PLT file is comprised of a set of instructions related to pen movements of HPGL plotters. PLT Import for AutoCAD reads these pen movement instructions and creates curve objects in the active AutoCAD drawing.
PLT Import supports the following HP plotters
- Hewlett-Packard 7475A
- Hewlett-Packard 7550A
- Hewlett-Packard 7580B
- Hewlett-Packard 7585B
- Hewlett-Packard 7586B
- Hewlett-Packard Draftmaster 1 (7595A)
- Hewlett-Packard Draftmaster 2 (7596A)
- Hewlett-Packard Draftpro (7570A)
- Hewlett-Packard Draftpro-DXL (7575A)
- Hewlett-Packard Draftpro-EXL (7576A)
PLT Import for AutoCAD is very easy to use. Once installed, it must be loaded into the AutoCAD environment. There are simple instructions for this in the ReadMe file. Once loaded it adds new commands to AutoCAD’s existing commands and a new submenu called “PLTImport” to the AutoCAD menu containing these newly added commands.
The ‘PLTImport’ menu commands
- Import - Imports a PLT file
- Help - Displays the PLT Import for AutoCAD help file
- Register - Registers your copy of PLT Import for AutoCAD
- About - Displays the PLT Import for AutoCAD About box
- PLT Import for AutoCAD comes with detailed documentation for each command as well as a tutorial to get you started in the shortest possible time.
The PLT File Format
HPGL is the Hewlett-Packard Graphics Language designed for specifying 2D graphical information for the HP range of plotters. It was not intended as an interchange format but some software suppliers use it as such.
HPGL is a command set embedded in the ROM of pen plotters to help reduce the work required by applications programmers to create plotted output. HPGL uses two-letter mnemonics as instructions for drawing lines, circles, text, and simple symbols.
HPGL is the primary printer control language used by Hewlett-Packard plotters. It later became a standard for almost all plotters.
Installation & Usage
